Table 1 - Composite List of Ingredients Added to Tobacco

Table 1 is a composite list of ingredients added to the tobacco blend in the Group's products. Composite lists of ingredients are presented separately for cigarettes, cigars, hand rolling tobacco, pipe tobacco, and snus.

In addition to the ingredients name, further information is also provided.

Each ingredient is identified, as appropriate and where available, by its:

  • Chemical Abstract Service Registry Number (CAS Number)
  • Flavour and Extract Manufacturers Association reference number (FEMA)
  • Council of Europe reference number (CoE)
  • International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) name or common chemical name.

Other information provided includes:

"Quantity Not Exceeded" (QNE), or maximum quantity at which an ingredient is used, is expressed as the percentage by weight of the ingredient in the tobacco blend (including moisture). The QNE is calculated from the highest specified target level of use of the ingredient in any single brand of this type manufactured by Gallaher Group for sale anywhere in the world. There are no QNEs for processing aids as these are added by tobacco manufacturers to facilitate the manufacturing process and they are either not present in the end product or occur in residual amounts and have no function in the final product. Ingredients are listed in alphabetical order.

Function defines why a particular ingredient is used. Examples of these uses are enclosed within the footnotes.

This table provides the information the Company believes is required by regulators and consumers in relation to the maximum quantity of each ingredient added to tobacco in its products.
